Health-ifying Your Vacation

Now that the summer season is upon, vacations and road trips are making there way to the spotlight. It’s easy when you go on a trip to go into “vacation mode” and just justify everything that you are eating and doing because you are “on vacation”. While indulgences are great, you can still sneak those healthy ways into your summer holiday. Here are some tips to get you started:

Feet on the Beach


Keep Being Active! Of course you don’t need to wake up at the crack of dawn everyday to train for a marathon, unless you want to of course, but there are plenty of ways to “sneak” in exercise. For example: Explore your destination by foot, walking is a great way to burn calories and have fun at the same time. Find a trail or park near by to explore. Google some exercise videos before you go to workout at your hotel. The options are endless, just remember it doesn’t have to be intense, it should be something fun!



Keep Eating Healthy! Now you mean be at an all-you-can-eat resort. Of course you are going to want to indulge, but that does not mean you need to do this every single night of the trip. And you don’t have to forget about your friends the fruits and vegetables, I know that they show up at buffets too! Don’t be afraid to add them to your plate! You could also make an effort on your trip to find a new restaurant and order something that looks delicious, but will also include those nutrients your body craves. Scope out the menu before you go so you have a ballpark how many calories are in the dishes you order. It’s all about moderation, choose wisely the majority of the time and then indulge in small amounts. Plus, leftovers always make great meals the next day too!



-Keep Having Fun! Trying to be “healthy” should not bring any extra stress to a vacation. A vacation is a time to relax and unwind. I’m not telling you to not go back for that second piece of chocolate cake or to forget about those extra cheesey boardwalk fries. I’m reminding you that you can add a salad to your fries or take a walk down the beach after you have finished eating. It’s all about finding the perfect balance and just enjoying life 🙂
